Random Ramblings

Here are some random thoughts and things that have happened over the last few weeks at our house...

1. Pickleville Playhouse - this has become a summertime favorite for our family. We went last night to The Hanging of El Bandito. This was a continuation from last summers play. We love the guy who plays El Bandito. He is such a great actor and has the audience in stitches the entire night. This play is also written by TJ Davis (the actor who plays El Bandito). It uses alot of current events innuendos, jokes about local towns, text messaging abbreviations, etc. It's not the best play ever but we enjoyed the entertainment and the laughter.

2. Cutco Knives - I bought a Cutco knife set a few weeks ago. Can I just say SHARP!!! Everytime I use a knife I cut myself - and that's not a joke. I've had many, many little tiny cuts and I have nearly cut off my pinky finger on my left hand and have sliced right down the middle of my thumb on my right hand. Both of these cuts probably required stitches but in the back of my mind I'm thinking I paid WAY TOO MUCH for the knives and then a trip to the ER would cost me another $200, so I just wrapped them up and hope for the best. I'm seriously contemplating sending the knives back because they are hazardous to my health!

3. Football Strength and Conditioning - Sky View Football offered a strength and conditioning class this summer for little league football players. Todd and I thought it would be good for Tyler to attend. He's been going now for about a month. The other day he was going out to the pool and his two current swimming suits were wet from previous swimming activities so he pulled out his very oldest swimming suit. I wasn't too sure it would fit him but he put it on and then I heard him say "Hmmm, that's weird." I then saw him get on the scale - something I've rarely seen Tyler do. I asked him what he was doing. He proceeds to tell me that he used to not be able to fit into this swimming suit but now he can but he hasn't lost any weight. I told him he was tighting up his muscles and losing inches not necessarily any weight. He found that pretty interesting and then told me he likes that idea. Tyler is anxious for football to start and to get his pads on again.

4. Lazy Days of Summer - at the beginning of the summer I was going to get so much accomplished in the yard. However, as the summer has gone on I've found every reason to not work in the yard. I'm sure people wonder if I know what a weed it - yes I do and my dad would probably be mortified if he saw my garden - but we are having a lot of fun just playing and hanging out together.

5. Christmas in July - it seems like every July I start thinking about Christmas (mostly the money that is involved). This year I really want to simplify Christmas, last year I thought I had done a good job of starting to simplify but the Christmas morning confusion didn't seem like I simplified much. I just can't seem to wrap my arms around any ideas that seem right. If I had an endless supply of money, I'd take my family on a vacation but since I haven't found a money tree, that won't be happening. What do you do to simplify Christmas?

6. People watching - I could sit of hours in a crowded place and do nothing but watch people. Last night after the play, we went to Cafe Sabor. We sat across from a large party of 12-15 people including a few small children. Soon their waitress brought out 8-10 shots of tequila. (Keep in mind I've never tasted any kind of alcohol and often wonder why people waste their money). Soon I noticed people pouring salt on their hands, licking the salt, drinking the tequila in one shot, and then putting the lime in their mouths. Such a weird thing to me. I love my diet coke but I like to sip it a little at a time and thankfully I don't have to spend $8 on it. Soon the beers and Margaretta's starting arriving. Before too long this table was out of control loud. Why? What about these few small children who were tired, sun burnt, and wanted their food? Just interesting to watch others.

Just a few rambiling thoughts...

Yeah I am not a fan of drinks and kids, that bugs me. I have been thinking christmas too. So when you find out how to simplify I want to know I think I make more each year. Just get into the spirit.
