Team Downs

In our home lately, Todd and I have felt that it's been a "ME" attitude and not a "WE" attitude. The boys were so worried about what they had to do/got verses what the other one had. Everyone seemed on edge, fighting and yelling could erupt at any given time -not the most pleasant family environment. Todd and I decided we need to do something to try and change the feeling in our house.

Last night for FHE, Todd gave us one of the best lessons we have probably EVER had for Family Home Evening. This idea worked for us because we are a sports playing. First Todd talked about playing football - its a team sport, what happens if the QB doesn't call a play, what happens if the wide receiver decides he's going to run a different play than what the QB calls, what happens if the center doesn't show up, etc. Todd took our family picture and asked us think of us as a mini-football team. He asked us each to write down our position on the team and what responsibilities we had in connection with that position.

I thought that my position was the center. If I'm not playing to my fullest, schedules don't get met, meals don't get cooked, laundry doesn't get done, etc. Todd was the QB - if he drops the ball nobody else can complete the play. He is my support because if he's not there who am I going to hike the ball too. Tyler and Kody both took the roll as wide receiver. They have to run the play that the QB calls or nothing will get accomplished.

As I'm typing this, I hope I'm making sense. Maybe it was a "Had to Be There" moment but it was very fitting for our family right now. As we were climbing into bed last night, I asked Todd were he came up with the idea. He told me it just came to him yesterday while cutting hay. I truly believe it was inspiration and an answer to some prayers. Tyler and Kody really got it, or at least they seemed too. I think it will also be a go to idea when things get out of control I can ask we are playing our position or if we need a time out and regroup.

I know that I didn't do this experience justice but I did feel the Spirit in our home last night during Family Home Evening.
