Thinking Outside The Box

I've been trying to slowly redo some of my home decor, but on a very tight budget! I haven't had any throw pillows on my couches and decided maybe that would be a quick and easy change - although not necessarily a cheap change! I've been looking for several weeks but couldn't find what I really wanted or what I was willing to pay.

Last week I was at Ross looking for some school shoes for the boys. I happened down the kitchen isle -- and found this!

Yep, that's a placemat. I loved the different textures and it was the exact color I was looking for and it was $1! I looked it over and decided I could unpick the side and fill the inside with stuffing and make a pillow. I figured if I really didn't like the outcome, it was only a $1 lesson learned.

The $1 risk was worth it! I loved the outcome.!

I had some leftover fabric from when I recovered the rocking chair a few months ago so I whipped up a bigger pillow to go with my placemat pillow.

I really like the change - nothing to big or costly but enough to liven things up a bit. However, I'm now remembering why I didn't have throw pillows to begin with -- Throw Pillows + Boys = Mess!!! Gotta love 'em!
