Happy 40th Birthday Kara!

On August 19, 2010, I reached the 40th milestone this summer.  I had mixed emotions about it 1)I really couldn't change it. 2)It means you are really not too far from 50. 3)It also means you've found yourself and are okay with yourself.  Overall I was excited for my birthday (although I usually am!).  Shalise and Todd planned a lunch on Tuesday August 17th with April, Maureen, and Shalise.  It was a great surprise and something I really enjoyed.  I wanted to do something big for my 40th birthday but didn't really have anything I was dying to do until...I was on facebook after my birthday lunch and I saw that a friend from high school was trying to sell some tickets to...

I had wanted to go to the Lion King from the moment I heard it was coming to SLC.  I checked into the prices and saw that tickets were $200 -- that wasn't going to happen!  I didn't think about going again until I saw the post on facebook.  The seats were balcony seats and $40.  I contacted him and Todd and I were on our way to The Lion King on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lion King was simply AMAZING!  I would go again and again and again and I would now probably pay the higher ticket price to get a little bit closer.  Our seats were fine and with the help of binoculars, I didn't feel like I missed anything.  It was a wonderful birthday present and a great date night with Todd.

On my actual birthday, Shalise made sure everyone at work knew about my big day by bringing me 3 large bouquets of black balloons.

I only took a picture of one of the bouquets but all were were this size!

It was great 40th birthday -- maybe I'll turn 40 every year!

My Boys

It's been a long while since I had the boys pictures taken. I decided it was time ... but where to go, who to go to, etc. etc. etc. A guy I work with, his wife came to work offering to take pictures so she could get some experience and practice. What the heck, let's give it a try -- below are just a few of my favorites.

Thanks Stef -- they look great!

Happy 15th Anniversay To Us!

Todd and I celebrated our 15h anniversary today. WOW -- 15 years! We spent our day doing the usual -- basketball practice, scouts, etc. We decided to rekindle our marriage by going on 2 dates a month. We have let the boys and their activities dictate much of our social calendar but now that the boys are older and can stay home for a few hours by themselves we decided a couple hours here and there would be good for Todd and I. I love Todd more now than I did 15 years ago but for different reasons. It's such a blessing to be married to your best friend and to have such a fun time together.

Swine Flu - Can you believe people really get it?

Well believe it! I'm not exactly sure where I picked it up from but that dang virus grabbed hold of my system and wasn't letting go for anything!

Tyler and Kody had both been feverish, chilling, and coughing last weekend and the beginning of last week but they bounced back after two days. I too got the chills, fever and cough - expecting the same pattern as the boys. My cold seemed to be a little bit worse but still nothing to worry about. During this same time, we had our final tax deadline of the year at work so that meant working some extra hours but anything I haven't done before. On Thursday (which was the deadline) I just kept pushing and going until about 8:00 that night. As I fell into bed, I felt really crappy but mom's can't be sick, you know.

Friday, I got up, still not feeling or looking that great, but I was going to host a dinner for my siblings and their spouses on Saturday night so I tried to clean a little and then I'd have to rest for a while, clean so more, rest some more. By noon, I went straight to bed - never to see the light of day again until Sunday morning. (Except for the 2 hours I was at InstaCare).

Thankfully, I'm on the mend and continue to feel better each day. I've never been a flu shot person but I do think I'll be getting mine and having my family get theirs as well.
